The threats and associated costs of weed invasion are numerous. They contribute significantly to land and water degradation and are second only to land clearing as a cause of biodiversity loss. Degraded creeks and drainage lines are a major source of weeds. Woody weed species in Banyule include Hawthorn, Broom, Box Elder, Willows, Bridal Creeper and Blackberry. These flourish along creeks and the Yarra river and many have the ability to spread by floating seeds carried downstream by water currents, where they and establish in other areas.
Come and join us - we will be weeding along Salt Creek where it meets the Yarra River. We will be located near the toliet block behind the Heidelberg Football club rooms.
